Fast Forward

I may be writing this as a means to go back and see where I've been. I guess the Chiari does result in some short term memory loss and inability to recall words on demand. I'm not making excuses for not continuing the blog (maybe just a little), but the last 3 months have been a roller coaster ride. Which by the way, Chiarians are never supposed to go on roller coasters.
I had a call from the Surgeons office on Oct.7, (the Posterior Fossa decompression surgery had been set for Nov.7.) They said if I could get to Wis. the next day I'd have surgery Oct. 9.
In the end, it was better not having time to think about having your head placed in a vice while an incision is made from the upper neck, about 10 inches up the back of your head.
The technical part of the surgery was "as expected". 2 days in ICU then one day in regular care.
That was the original plan...however, we chose plan B. Guiallian Barre Syndrome does not like anything invasive. And it certainly was mad about my body going through brain surgery. So I was moved to a Physical rehab unit, same hospital, for 2 weeks. During that time my daughter, back home-and 2 hours away, had had my 4th grand baby. At the end of 2 weeks and an evaluation they thought we needed more time in Rehab...I thought differently. I was released a few days later. Had to go back in a week to get the stiches out, then started outpatient therapy closer to home.
So that takes us up to today. (I've spared all the gory details in between, but they are forever embedded in my re-arranged brain.) Since sitting upright at the computer brings on a very uncomfortable strain in the back of my head and neck, I'll pick up later. Hopefully sooner, that later.
